Metal coating can be applied for various reasons including corrosion and wear resistance, passivation, decorative and lubricity.  

Handheld x-ray fluorescence (XRF) offers general metal finishers and others thickness measurement at or near the process without the need to cut samples and spend time waiting for lab results from bench-top analyzers.
